Case Study Three - Streetscape
PROJECT: Kilsyth Town Centre
DBA carried out the scheme detailed design in close consultation with NLC and the landscape architect. The design included high quality hard landscaping, contemporary street furniture, innovative street and "LED" feature lighting, focal point art-work, social art-work, renovation of existing stonework and replacement of riverside fencing.

The design was adapted on site to take account of site conditions, with innovative solutions to replace original design concepts. Stainless steel trees replaced real trees as a vertical feature due to underground services constraints. Following detailed design DBA’s remit was extended to cover Tender, Contract Administration and full-time Site Supervision.

Various constraints had to be taken into account in the management of the construction process, including provisions for servicing of properties along main street. Provision also had to be made to accommodate the regular street market in Kilsyth during the course of the construction works. The works were completed during August 2005 on time and on-budget, with an increased scope of works. DBA also acted as Planning Supervisor for the project.

Case Study Five - Maintenance Works
PROJECT: Various Housing Associations
We are currently undertaking commissions throughout Scotland where we are assessing the condition of carriageways, footpaths, retaining structures and landscaped areas in residential areas, currently covering a total of over 6,400 managed dwellings. The projects involve the assessment of condition; identification of specific defects and categorising those defects depending on the severity. Each defect and area is then ranked to produce work packages, which are structured to suit the Client's budgetary requirements.

Our current appointments include preparation of tender packages; site supervision and contract administration for work packages ranging from £20,000 to £1.5M.

We pride ourselves on the detail and accuracy of the information provided to the Client. Each survey includes detailed plans, coloured to identify general condition; photographs of specific defects; cost estimates for each defect (and each area). The tendered work packages provide the client with costs for each item so there is complete flexibility to allow any item to be added or deleted to suit the Client’s requirements. In some cases the works enable the areas to be Adopted by the local authority thereby reducing the Client’s long-term maintenance cost and responsibility.
