Case Study One - Traffic & Transportation
PROJECT: Silverburn Centre, Pollok, Glasgow
CLIENT: Retail Property Holdings

DBA prepared a major Transportation Assessment for the regeneration and redevelopment of Pollok Town Centre in Glasgow, adjacent to the M77.

The scheme comprised circa 1,000,000 square feet of retail development. DBA produced an extensive TA; separate Travel Plans for staff and customers; Park-and-Ride studies and the facility forming part of the development; traffic input to environmental studies and carried out consultations with Strathclyde Passenger Transport and First Group associated with the redevelopment of the existing public transport hub and specification for and introduction of the Park-and-Ride bus service.

DBA went on to design extensive off-site road works including a reconfigured motorway interchange, site roads, park-and-ride and PT hub. DBA also prepared trunk and local road orders and co-ordinated their promotion by the Scottish Executive and Council and trunk and local roads authorities.

Transportation Case Study 2 | Union Square Aberdeen Transportation Case Study 2 | Union Square Aberdeen

Case Study Two - Traffic & Transportation
PROJECT: Union Square Aberdeen
CLIENT: Hammerson

DBA prepared a Transport Assessment of a mixed retail/leisure development comprising 48,000m² GFA in Aberdeen City Centre, and a major expansion of the existing City Rail and Bus stations. Passenger and vehicular access to rail and bus stations was designed as well as the operational bus station layout.

Studies included an accessibility assessment by all transport modes, particularly pedestrian links to the City Centre (Union Street). A package of measures was devised to accommodate the development including improvements to pedestrian and cycle routes and a significant extension to the City Centre linked signal control system.

City Centre parking surveys were conducted to establish current levels of capacity and predict additional development parking required without encouraging additional commuter trips.

A Transport Plan Framework was produced, including a car park management regime. DBA produced detailed network analysis; carried out detailed traffic signal design; undertook the development of layout / design drawings; prepared bus station design layouts assessing manoeuvrability of vehicles and of servicing and access areas including service yards and car parks.

Transportation Case Study 3 | Kirkintilloch Link Road Transportation Case Study 3 | Kirkintilloch Link Road

Case Study Three - Traffic & Transportation
PROJECT: Kirkintilloch Link Road / Woodilee Masterplan
CLIENT: Woodilee Consortium / Kirkintilloch Initiative

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Local Transport Strategy identifies the construction of the Kirkintilloch Link Road as a strategic infrastructure requirement for the redevelopment of land at Woodilee Hospital.

The Consortium (Cala, Redrow, Miller & Persimmon) appointed DBA to prepare the outline design of the KLR and advise on Transport / Highway matters relating to the development masterplan. DBA’s studies included developing a strategic local area Trips model assessing the KLR’s diversion effects on the road network.

DBA prepared a Local Model Validation Report (LMVR) demonstrating that the Trips model accurately predicted traffic conditions within the Kirkintilloch & Lenzie conurbation. The validated model was updated using local growth factors and committed development to assess future demand and traffic assignments were produced for both the committed base and design networks (including the KLR).

The KLR will Link Kirkintilloch to Scotland’s motorway network, running from the Town Centre to M80 Hornshill Interchange / Stepps by-pass, providing benefits to the local economy and improving the environment and public safety by diverting heavy traffic away from residential areas.

Transportation Case Study 4 | Southeast Ayr

Case Study Four - Traffic & Transportation
PROJECT: Southeast Ayr
CLIENT: Taylor Wimpey / CALA / Lynch Homes

South Ayrshire’s Adopted Local Plan (2008) identifies 2 strategic land releases north and south of Ayr for residential development. The Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan (2007-2025) identified land at Southeast Ayr for future expansion associated with these requirements.

DBA have undertaken extensive transportation studies in consultation with Transport Scotland and South Ayrshire Council, considering the local and strategic transportation issues relevant to delivering the development area. DBA have prepared a major Transportation Assessment for the development masterplan, considering the sustainability and integration of transport solutions and roads infrastructure on both the local and Trunk road networks.

DBA also prepared the A77 Corridor Study, involving the micro-simulation of infrastructure options for input to the Council’s assessment in accordance with STAG (Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance).

Case Study Five - Traffic & Transportation
PROJECTS: Sustainable Transport Solutions
CLIENT: Multiple

DBA has undertaken the preparation of numerous studies involving the delivery of sustainable transport solutions to our clients. For many of these studies the outcome is the successful implementation of a Travel Plan for a given development or facility, including discussion with local public transport operators regarding service levels and routes.

Depending on client needs these plans may involve prior travel behaviour monitoring. A sample list of DBA’s sustainable transport projects of particular note is shown below. This list excludes numerous GTP frameworks and initial plans produced at the planning stage.

Projects
Silverburn Shopping Centre, Glasgow – staff and customer GTPs, studies of park-and-ride viability, P’n’R design, negotiationswith First Glasgow for P’n’R bus service (now implemented)
Audi Headquarters, Braehead, Glasgow – GTP
